Luke Olson was a member of the North Dakota State University football staff in 2019 as the defensive quality control assistant for the Bison, who went 16-0 and won the Missouri Valley Football Conference and NCAA FCS national championship.
Olson was the cornerbacks coach at Truman State University in 2018 and also served as the team's assistant special teams coordinator and video coordinator. The Bulldogs ranked among the Division II top 10 in net punting and kickoff returns.Â
Prior to Truman State, Olson was the secondary coach, recruiting coordinator and video coordinator for four seasons at Doane University in Nebraska from 2014 to 2017, helping the Tigers to a 30-12 record and two NAIA playoff appearances. He coached 17 all-conference defensive backs.
Olson was a recruiting assistant for head coach Jerry Kill at the University of Minnesota in 2012 and 2013, helping the Golden Gophers staff with unofficial and official campus visits along with day-to-day recruiting responsibilities.
A graduate of Wayzata High School in Plymouth, Minn., he began his coaching career with the Trojans on the defensive staff of the 2010 Class 5A state champions and 2011 state runner-up team.
Olson was a three-year letterman and played on Wayzata's 2005 Class 5A championship team. He was the second leading tackler for the Trojans as a linebacker in 2007 and helped the team to a state quarterfinal appearance.
Olson earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Minnesota in 2012. He is the older brother of NDSU linebackers coach Grant Olson.
