North Dakota State alum Riley Dolezal serves as a volunteer assistant coach for the Bison while competing professionally as one of the USA’s top javelin throwers.
Dolezal has represented Team USA in the javelin at the IAAF World Championships three times in his career -- 2013 (Moscow, Russia), 2015 (Beijing, China), and 2019 (Doha, Qatar). He has finished in the top three at the USATF Championships for seven consecutive years from 2013-19, capturing American titles in 2013 and 2017.
He made his debut as a member of Team USA at the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia. Dolezal shocked the track & field scene that June, winning the American title after entering the national meet ranked 14th. He unleashed four consecutive lifetime-best throws, capping the day at 273-11 (83.50m) to meet the World Championships ‘A’ standard exactly.
A native of Stanley, N.D., Dolezal competed for NDSU from 2005-09 and now throws professionally for Velaasa following a multi-year contract with Nike. He ranks 9th on the USA all-time list in the javelin.
