Steffes, Dahl Garner Football Gazette I-AA National Weekly Honors

North Dakota State University halfback Kyle Steffes and strong safety Craig Dahl were selected Football Gazette NCAA I-AA National Players of the Week.
Steffes, a 5-foot-11, 204-pound sophomore from Dickinson, N.D., earned Offensive Player of the Week honors. He rushed for a career-high 175 yards and four touchdowns on 13 carries in the 52-0 win against Valparaiso.
Steffes scored on TD runs of 43, 14, 34 and two yards. It was his third career 100-yard game. Steffes scored only three touchdowns in an injury-shortened 2003 season.
Dahl, a 6-1, 207-pound, sophomore from Mankato, Minn., took Defensive Player of the Week honors. Dahl came up with an interception and recorded a sack in the 52-0 win over Valparaiso.
Dahl also had one solo tackle and four assisted tackles. The NDSU defense posted first opening game shutout since 1974 when Bison defeated Nebraska-Omaha 3-0. The Valpo offense only advanced as far as their own 49 yard line.
North Dakota State (1-0) is scheduled to open Great West Football Conference play against Northern Colorado (0-0) at 3:10 p.m. (CST) Saturday, Sept. 4 in Greeley, Colo. The game will be televised by Fox Sports North and Fox Sports Rocky Mountain.
