Box Score FARGO, N.D. - Eight different players scored goals as the North Dakota State soccer team rolled to a 9-0 victory over Centenary in Summit League action on Friday, Oct. 29. Freshman Katie Tallas led the Bison with two goals and an assist, while juniors Abbey Stratton and Katie Luce each tallied a goal and an assist. The win is NDSU's seventh shutout of the year.
The Bison improve to 10-5-4 overall and 5-2-1 in The Summit League, while Centenary falls to 4-13-0 overall and 1-7 in league play.
NDSU wasted no time in getting on the board as junior Danielle DeMent tapped the ball in off a corner kick from senior Quin Ryan two minutes and 30 seconds into the game. Senior Marissa Wolfgram scored her first goal of the season in the 12th minute, knocking in a corner kick at the back post from junior Abbey Stratton.
The Bison continued to pressure the Centenary defense, but goalie Kalyn Harris made three saves in the next 18 minutes. Freshman Katie Tallas gave the Bison a 3-0 lead in the 30th minute after her shot from the right side glanced off a defender and past Harris.
Less than six minutes later, junior Katie Luce notched her first goal of the year. She directed the ball into the upper left corner off a cross from Tallas as the Bison took a 4-0 lead into halftime.
NDSU came out firing in the second half as junior Danielle Boldenow added to the Bison tally only 58 seconds into the half. Boldenow beat her defender on a run up the middle and slotted the ball into the lower right side of the net.
Five minutes later, Stratton scored her second of the season as she sent a free kick from just outside the box around the Centenary wall and into the lower right corner.
In the 69th minute, Tallas combined with fellow freshman Sheri Fitzsimmons for her second goal of the day. Fitzsimmons laid a pass to the on-rushing Tallas, who made no mistake from eight yards out.
Sophomore Shannon Brooks tallied a goal of her own in the 83rd minute, powering a shot past goalie Haleigh Coffey, who played the second half for the Ladies. Less than four minutes later, freshman Brianna Wersal scored her first career goal as she headed in a cross from Luce.
The Bison outshot the Ladies, 27-1, and took 15 corner kicks to Centenary's one. Junior goalie Kalani Bertsch made one save in 63 minutes of action, while sophomore goalie Christie Stemple played the final 27 minutes, but did not have to make a save.
The Bison close out the regular season Sunday at noon against Oral Roberts at the Ellig Sports Complex. Sunday's contest will also be Senior Day and seniors Candice D'Arcangeli, Quin Ryan and Marissa Wolfgram will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
