FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State junior thrower
Emily Lesser broke the 14-year old NDSU school record in the shot put by more than one foot to highlight a day of outstanding performances by the Bison women's track & field team at the Thundering Herd Classic on Saturday.
Lesser reached a personal-best mark of 50-04.75 (15.36m) to win the shot put, surpassing the previous NDSU record of 49-03.75 set by Julia Karst-Gray in 2000. Lesser leads The Summit League and now ranks among the nation's top 50 in the event.
The junior from Maple Grove, Minn., also won the weight throw on Saturday with a mark of 61-06.25 (18.75m).
NDSU's
Caitlin Mack became the second woman in school history to surpass the 13-foot mark in the pole vault, taking second place with a clearance of 13-01.50 (4.00m). Along with moving to No. 2 on the Bison all-time list, Mack stands among the top 50 vaulters in the nation this season.
Senior sprinter
Ashley Tingelstad won a pair of events and moved to No. 3 in school history in both. Tingelstad took the 60m dash title with a time of 7.63 seconds, which ranks her behind only teammates
Antoinette Goodman and
Deborah John in the NDSU record books. Later, Tingelstad won the 200m dash in a personal-best time of 24.31 – also third-best in school history.
Junior
Paige Stratioti continued her strong indoor season as well, clocking in at a personal-best 55.00 to win the 400m dash and rank No. 5 all-time at NDSU.
Bison redshirt freshman
Katelyn Weimerskirch was second to Lesser in the weight throw. Weimerskirch posted a toss of 55-08.50 (16.98m) to rank seventh in NDSU history in the event.
Junior
Maddie McClellan moved up to seventh in school history in the mile, finishing in 4:54.19 for second place.
Unattached Bison senior
Deborah John won the 60m hurdles in 8.46 seconds.
NDSU freshman
Christina Bruenjes was the runner-up in the triple jump at 36-09.50 (11.21m).
Anna Benke and
Brittany Stangl each cleared 12-01.50 (3.70m) in the pole vault.
Freshman
Morgan Milbrath placed second in the 60m dash (7.85) and third in the 200m dash (25.15).
Ashley Heinze ran a personal-best 56.82 for second place in the 400m dash.
