Sierra Rosenau got things started for the Bison women's track & field team with a record-breaking performance on the first day of the Summit League Outdoor Championships on Thursday. Rosenau broke her own NDSU school record, the facility record and the Summit League Championships record in the javelin on her way to her first league title in the event.
Ranked first in The Summit League entering the meet, Rosenau left no doubt who would claim the 2014 javelin title. Her winning throw of 163-6 (49.84m) topped the second-place finisher by more than 22 feet. The Carrington, N.D., native climbed to 31st on the national performance list this season and 14th in the West Region in the event.
Rosenau extended her own school record for the fourth time this season – this time by five and a half feet.
Bison redshirt freshman
Katelyn Weimerskirch earned her first outdoor All-Summit League honor, placing third in the hammer throw with a throw of 167-1 (50.94m).
NDSU sophomore
Amber Riopelle placed fourth in the javelin after taking fifth last year, posting a mark of 133-10 (40.80m).
On the first day of the heptathlon, NDSU freshman
Rose Jackson opened with a huge personal-best of 15.29 seconds in the 100m hurdles and closed with another PR of 24.53 in the 200m dash. Jackson stands in third place with 2,922 points through four events – 120 points ahead of her best first-day total this season.
Bison freshman
Deidre Hahn is in fifth in the heptathlon with 2,627 points, and sophomore
Ann Govig is sixth with 2,568 points.
The second day of the Summit League Outdoor Championships will get underway Friday with the decathlon 110m hurdles at 11 a.m. Women's action begins with the heptathlon long jump at noon, and the pole vault will start at 3 p.m. after being postponed from Thursday. Running events are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
