FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – North Dakota State junior Paige Stratioti qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 800m run on Friday evening, headlining the day for the Bison women's track & field team at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds.

The Duluth, Minn., native clocked a time of 2:06.21 to finish second in her quarterfinal heat and earn an automatic qualifying spot. Running near the back of the pack 400 meters into the race, Stratioti maneuvered her way out of traffic and into fourth place on the backstretch before kicking her way into second with about 100 meters left.

As one of the final 24 competitors remaining in the country, Stratioti will run in the national semifinals in Eugene, Ore., on Wednesday, June 11. The national finals are scheduled for Friday, June 13.

Stratioti joins Christine Schmaltz and Laura Hermanson – both also 800m qualifiers – as representatives for NDSU at the Division I Outdoor Championships in the running events.

Two more Bison women kept their hopes alive on Friday of joining Stratioti in Oregon. Seniors Deborah John and Antoinette Goodman each advanced to the quarterfinals of their respective events.

John matched her season-best time of 13.50 in the 100m hurdles, claiming an automatic qualifying spot to tomorrow's national quarterfinals. John's 13.50 was the sixth-fastest time among all competitors in the first round, and the top 12 performers on Saturday will move on to the NCAA Championships in Eugene.

Goodman moved on to tomorrow's quarterfinals in the 200m dash, running 23.51 to take second in her heat and get an automatic qualifying spot among the final 24 in the West.

In the quarterfinals of the 100m dash on Friday, Goodman ran the third-fastest time of her career at 11.63 seconds, but she took 15th place and missed a bid to the NCAA Championships by three spots.

Faith Kruchowski ran 2:09.22 in the quarterfinals of the 800m to place 20th. She concludes her career ranked ninth in NDSU history in the event.

Sophomore Erin Teschuk ran the second-fastest steeplechase race of her career – 10:24.98 for 18th place overall after entering the meet ranked 31st in the region. She finishes the season ranked third in NDSU history in the event.

Redshirt freshman Katelyn Weimerskirch capped a tremendous first season of competition with a throw of 151-10 (46.28m) for 39th place in the discus. The East Dubuque, Ill., native improved the NDSU school record on five different occasions this season.

Along with the quarterfinal races for John and Goodman, NDSU will attempt to qualify its 4x400m relay team of Stratioti, Morgan Milbrath, Goodman and Ashley Tingelstad for the NCAA Championships at 9:45 p.m. on Saturday evening. The Bison enter this meet ranked ninth in the West Region, with the top 12 moving on to Eugene.
