AUSTIN, Texas – North Dakota State sophomore Tony Ukkelberg recorded personal-best performances in three out of five events Wednesday in the Texas Relays decathlon, totaling a career-best 3,866 points on the first day of competition.
Ukkelberg (Clitherall, Minn.) opened the day with three consecutive personal-bests, running 11.34 in the 100m dash, going 23-08.00 (7.21m) in the long jump, and throwing 48-07.25 (14.81m) in the shot put.
In the two events where he didn't register personal-best marks, Ukkelberg posted the second-best performances of his career. He cleared 6-06.00 (1.98m) in the high jump and capped the day with a 400m time of 53.68.
Ukkelberg stands in fifth place through five of the 10 events with 3,866 points. NDSU senior Ryan Enerson is in 13th with 3,691 points – the second-best Day 1 score of his career.
Enerson had personal-bests of 11.37 in the 100m dash and 46-02.75 (14.09m) in the shot put.
The rest of the Bison men's track & field team will start competition at the Texas Relays, Texas State's Bobcat Invitational, and the Mike Fanelli Classic in Hayward, Calif., on Thursday.
