The Course
A picturesque course tucked into the surrounding neighborhoods of the south side of Springfield, Missouri, Twin Oaks Country Club relies on natural terrain and risk/reward hazards to provide a challenging round for any golfer. The course record was set in 1963 by the great Arnold Palmer, who fired a round of 61. The five par 3s are fiercely protected by water, bunkers and tough lies, and are aided by heavily sloped greens. The signature hole is the closing 18th, a 407-yard par 4. The tee shot flies directly into the prevailing south wind, leaving you with a mid to long iron for the approach if you find the fairway. The green slopes heavily from back to front, but trying to attack it from the short side is a bad idea with two massive bunkers guarding either side.
The Field
11 teams will compete at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial. Alongside NDSU and hosts Missouri State, the tournament field will include Western Illinois, Valparaiso, South Dakota State, Oral Roberts, Lindenwood, Drury, South Dakota, East Texas A&M and Kansas State.
Bison Competing
The Bison will take six golfers down to Missouri for the tournament. The lineup will include Avery Bartels, Norah Roberts, Hannah Dunk, Belle Kongshaug and Lauren Chambs. Jeri Lafleche will also compete as an individual.
Bison at the MSU/Payne Stewart Invitational
The Bison return to the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial for the first time since 2024, when they finished in a tie for second with Oral Roberts. Norah Roberts finished in a tie for fourth at +4 on the tournament, while Hannah Dunk fired a final round 71 en route to a sixth-place finish. It was also the second in a string of four tournaments to open the season where the Bison finished inside the top 5, a mark that this year's Bison will look to match in Springfield.
Last Time Out
NDSU wrapped up their third tournament of the season with a fifth-place finish at the Diane Thomason Invitational in Iowa. Three Bison finished inside the top 20, including Hannah Dunk who grabbed her third consecutive top 11 finish. Avery Bartels fired a 72 in the second round on her way to tie for 19th. Emma Fitzmorris competed as an individual and improved every round of the tournament, closing with a 72 and ending in a tie for 17th.
Dunking On Em
Fourth year golfer Hannah Dunk has opened the 2026-27 campaign with back-to-back-to-back top 11 finishes. After coming in a tie for seventh at the NDSU Fall Invitational, Dunk earned an eighth-place finish at the Yellowstone Intercollegiate and a 11th place finish at the Diane Thomason Invitational. She's helped the Bison to three consecutive top 5 finishes to open the schedule for the second time in the past three seasons.
Home Field Advantage
Oxbow native Avery Bartels grew up playing at Oxbow Country Club, and used that to her advantage to claim her first collegiate victory at the NDSU Fall Invitational in September. Bartels fired rounds of 73 and 74 on her way to the title, starting off round two with a birdie and an eagle before rounding out the day with three pars on the last three holes to secure the victory.
Looking Ahead
The Bison will take a week off before heading to Henderson, Nevada to compete in the Clash at Boulder Creek, their final tournament of the fall season. Hosted by Northern Arizona, the tournament will be played at Boulder Creek Golf Club on October 25-27.
