NDSU Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Oral Roberts

TULSA, Okla. – The North Dakota State baseball team split a doubleheader at Oral Roberts, 3-2, and, 3-14, on Friday afternoon at Chapman Park.
In game one, Oral Roberts (24-16, 15-2 Summit) started the scoring with a two RBI single into left field to make the score 2-0 in the third inning. Caleb Corbin answered for the Bison (7-25, 4-9 Summit) with an RBI single into right field before Colten Becker followed it up with another RBI single to lock the contest, 2-2, in the third. Diego Trujillo then stole the lead, 3-2, for NDSU with a solo home run to right field in the fourth inning. The Bison went on to hold off the Golden Eagles over the final five innings for the 3-2 win.
NDSU posted six hits as a team with six different players logging one.
Brayden Marks (2-4) made the start tossing two strikeouts with two walks over 5.0 innings. Sheamus Ryan picked up his second save the season with no walks across 4.0 scoreless innings of work.
In game two, the Golden Eagles topped the Bison, 14-3, in seven innings. Kyle Law put NDSU on the board with an RBI double to center field for the 1-0 lead in the first inning. Bennett Freiter then extended the edge with an RBI single of his own to right field to make the score 2-0 in the second.
The Golden Eagles answered with six runs on five hits in the bottom half of the second to the steal the lead, 6-2, after Makani Tanaka connected on a three-run home run. Following an RBI sacrifice fly off the bat of Tommy Simon in the fourth, Oral Roberts closed the game with eight unanswered runs over the final three frames, including four in the sixth to seal the 14-3 run-rule win.
Chase Womack went 2-of-4 at the plate, including a season-best two doubles and one run.
Zak Szabo (2-2) made his first start as a Bison and logged 2.0 innings. Easton Reimers also provided two strikeouts over 2.1 frames.
NDSU will continue its series at Oral Roberts tomorrow. The start time has been moved up to 1:00 p.m., due to anticipated weather.
