NDSU Soccer’s Garrett, Russmann Named as Players to Watch

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - North Dakota State Soccer's Amaya Garrett and Morgan Russmann have been tabbed as Summit League Players to Watch in the league preseason release on Tuesday.
Garrett and Russmann headline the returning group of Bison that features 14 upperclassmen and held NDSU claim the 2024 Summit League Regular Season Championship. The duo has started every game for the Bison since they stepped on campus.
Garrett, who enters her fourth season with the Bison, has played in all 54 games and all but 116 minutes since stepping on campus in Fargo in 2023. The defender has four career goals and three career assists, while logging 4744 minutes on the back line. In the defensive half, Garrett has been the cornerstone of the defense and helped the Bison to 17 shutouts. Garrett earned Summit League All-Newcomer honors as a freshman and has also scooped up First Team All-Summit League honors in her career.
Russmann, who enter her third season with the Bison has played in all 39 games and has led NDSU in scoring both years, scoring 11 goals as a freshman and six goals last season. Russmann's 17 career goals is quickly approaching the top-10 all-time for NDSU. She also has nine career assists. Russmann burst onto the scene in her debut season, becoming the first player ever to win the Summit League Offensive Player of the Year and Summit League Newcomer of the Year in the same season. Russmann also has a pair of All-League honors, as well as an All-Region honor in 2024.
In the release, the Bison were also picked sixth overall in the preseason coaches' poll, recording 20 points in the voting. NDSU finished eighth last season after a 1-6-1 record in league play.
North Dakota State is slated to begin the season this Thursday, August 13, as the Bison welcome in Green Bay for the first of six-straight home games to open up the regular season. The Bison will begin Summit League play on Thursday, September 24, at North Dakota.
